Capcom Hints It May Revive Dormant Game Franchises – PlayStation Universe

Speaking in a recent Q&A with investors, Resident Evil publisher Capcom suggested it may revive some of its long-dormant gaming franchises if there is enough demand for it.

Asked about what its future plans are for dormant IPs, the company issued the following comment:

We are currently putting together plans for our pipeline based on-demand data from the market. Going forward, we will continue to take customers’ wishes into consideration while devising our title lineup.

Capcom has a massive and diverse range of IPs under its belt, although there’s plenty of franchises that haven’t seen a new instalment in years.

One of those is the cult classic fighting series Darkstalkers, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 1997. Street Fighter Yoshinori Ono was a large support of this series (which is why we got the 2013 re-releases), but since he left Capcom, it remains to be seen what will happen.

More recently, we have the likes of Power Stone, the Dreamcast franchise that has been keeping a low profile for around 20 years, and Lost Planet, which last got a new game in 2013.

Of course, you can’t broach this sort of topic without mentioning Dino Crisis and Onimusha, both fan-favourite series that haven’t done much of anything in years.

Capcom is launching its first new IP in 10 years in 2023 with Pragmata. Last week, the company said it plans to release ‘multiple major new titles‘ by March 31, 2023.
