Who could be the latest retailer to drop Sony’s console?
(The Independent )
UPDATE: The PS5 is currently in stock at Scan. It could drop at Amazon, BT and EE soon. Read on for more information.
It’s almost been a year and a half since the PS5 was first launched, yet we’re all still here, struggling to find a console thanks to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage sparked by the coronavirus pandemic.
Things started to look up in March, after a dire start to 2022 with the worst two months for drops on record in January and February. April has seen better fortune with large drops from some of the biggest retailers in the UK. We’re now approaching the end of the month, and for the last couple of weeks the situation has slowly improved,
We’ve seen PS5 consoles available at PlayStation Direct, ShopTo, Currys, Argos, AO, Game, Smyths Toys, Veryand more. Let’s hope that these drops continue as we speed towards May.
Our liveblog is here to get you one of Sony’s elusive next-gen consoles, as well as provide you with the details on the best games and accessories to grab alongside your new machine, plus the latest game reviews. GTA V nex-gen on PS5 review
The latest version of Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in March, but is the update (£8.75, Playstation.com) worth the money?
Well, our writer noted that for them, the next Grand Theft Auto can’t come any sooner. That said, GTA V is “one of the best ways to experience one of the biggest games ever made on a console”, with the world “a colourful place by any standards and there’s a vibrancy to Los Santos that really shines through on the latest hardware”.

Game PS5 restock news
(Eva Waite-Taylor)
Game is making a name for itself for being a reliable stock dropper. The last restock we saw was on 20 April at 10am.
We’ve just checked the PS5 landing page and noticed that the retailer has updated with a new date. By the looks of things, we might be able to expect Game to drop the console and a number of bundles next week, around 26 April. Of course, we’ll keep you updated.

Best PS5 games to play now
So, you’ve managed to bag the console, or perhaps you’re eagerly anticipating the next drop. But what you really need to know is what the best games are to play on the PS5.
(FromSoftware)
Luckily, our gaming writer Jasper Pickering has reviewed 16 different games for every kind of player. If it’s an action game you’re after, he recommends Elden Ring (£44.95, Amazon.co.uk) since it “offers plenty of challenges for players, while its improved combat mechanics and traversal provide ample opportunity for newcomers to get acquainted with the genre”. Pickering added that it’s “gaming at its very best”.

Is the PS5 in stock at Smyths?
(The Independent)
Sadly, the covetable console is not in stock at Smyths Toys. The last restock the retailer had was an online restock on 12 April at 10am.
Smyths isn’t the easiest to secure online stock from – often consoles are usually pick-up only. Its website doesn’t always show the PS5 as being in stock on the website either, with the retailer neglecting to update the product page.
But of course, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest stock drops.

The PS5 accessories that will make you an even better player
While the PlayStation 5 console comes with all of the essential accessories that you in theory need, including a controller, HDMI 2.1 cable, and power leads. But, to really enhance your play, we’d recommend investing in some extras.
(Sony)
Which one to choose? Sony PlayStation 5 dualsense controller (£55.85, Amazon.co.uk), took the top spot in our guide to best PS5 accessories with our write noting that the “well-designed controller that feels good in your hands and provides some unique features such as its pressure sensitive triggers and haptic feedback that just don’t feel the same elsewhere”.

When could EE restock the PS5?
(EE)
Restocks at EE and the BT Shop often happen in tandem with each other, so it’s no surprise that we’re also predicting a drop to take place at EE very soon.
The mobile network hasn’t restocked the console at all this month, and it usually drops the PS5 once every four weeks, so it’s well due a restock. It last restocked the console on the same day as the BT Shop in late March, so we could be in for a double whammy next week.
The PS5 is only available to EE customers via “add to plan”. You need to be an EE customer in a 12-month or longer pay monthly contract to buy the console.

On the hunt for the elusive console? Follow along with our live restock updates
(The Independent)
The BT Shop is another retailer we’ve currently got our eye on. The retailer hasn’t restocked the console since late March, so it’s well due another drop sometime soon.
Only BT Broadband customers are able to buy a PS5 from the retailer, with customers being urged to register their interest if they want to receive an exclusive access code before the next drop.
Even if you don’t register your interest in advance, you’ll still be able to get yourselves on the day of a drop. We’re predicting one could take place any day between 25-29 April.

Want something cheaper? Here’s when Amazon could restock next
(The Independent)
If the bundles at Scan are looking a little too steep for your liking, then we’re hopefully going to see a restock at Amazon in the coming days.
It was heavily rumoured that the PS5 would restock at Amazon on Wednesday morning, but this never happened. Odd, considering it hasn’t dropped consoles since 23 March, and it usually restocks once every four weeks.
Since it didn’t drop on Wednesday (which is the day it usually drops consoles), we’re now predicting a restock on 27 April instead. Amazon only restocks standalone consoles, so it’s your best chance at getting the machine at its cheapest price without any of the extras.

PS5 bundles are still in stock at Scan
The PS5 is still in stock at Scan. Right now, this is the only place you can get a console (at a reasonable price from a reputable retailer). There are two bundles listed on the site, though they’re both quite pricey.
There’s a PS5 disc edition console bundle with Gran Turismo 7,Horizon Forbidden West and a 1TB WD SN850 SSD with a Sabrent Heatsink (£759.98, Scan.co.uk).
Or you can get a PS5 digital edition console with a pulse 3D wireless headset, an extra dualsense controller, a charging station and a 1TB SSD with a heatsink (£779.99, Scan.co.uk).
